OASIS
The OASIS website http://www.oasis.curtin.edu.au will be able to answer most of your Oasis questions, they have a very usefull help section on the left hand side of your oasis account page . Unfortunatly the helpdesk is not able to provide a lot of support for OASIS problems but there is an OASIS helpdesk located in the ABACUS Lab in building 303 .
To set up your account you must access the OASIS Webpage http://www.oasis.curtin.edu.au . If you do not have internet access at home then you can setup your account in the labs by logging in with the username sguest and sguest as the password and following the same steps. Enter your student number and pin (birthday DDMMYYYY) . Follow the prompts on the screen and enter your passwords and secret questions. Please note however that passwords cannot be anything too obvious and must contain at least 2 numbers, 2 letters and be exactly 8 characters in length eg abcdef12 . You will then be asked a bit more information including a secret question, It is very important that you enter your details correctly as this is what is used to identify you if you have a problem later. when all of your details have been entered and accepted you will get a confirmation screen. Please write down all of your details and keep them in a safe place.
To login to your account in the labs press CTRL + ALT + DEL at the novell login screen. Enter your username which is your student number and your password . If you experience any difficuties in logging in the helpdesk should be able to assist you or direct you where to go.
You can change your password at any time, by logging into the OASIS web page and clicking on the appropriate link. If you have forgotten your password, then there is also a link on the oasis login page to recover it by answering your secret question.
Your email address is most likely firstname.lastname@student.curtin.edu.au and is automatically created when you set up your OASIS account. You can access your email from anywhere that you can use the internet (like hotmail) simply log into your OASIS account from the OASIS webpage http://www.oasis.curtin.edu.au .
Internet access is provided for educational course related work only, Currently your internet access is restricted to a quota which can be checked via oasis, and some sites have been blocked as their content has been deemed not educationally relevant. Please be aware that all of your internet activity is monitored and logged.
Swipe Cards
Entry to the labs will only be granted by the use of a swipe card. Your student card can be enabled at the helpdesk after you have completed a lab access application/agreement form . Access to the building outside of normal hours also requires a swipe card. Please try to keep your card away from other cards with magnetic strips and magnetic fields. If your card wont grant you access try varying your swiping speed , as some card readers are fairly sensitive and need to be swiped at the right speed. (generally slower swipes work better for most). If have filled in the form and your card isn't working correctly please visit the helpdesk to have it checked. If you lose your swipe card contact the helpdesk as soon as possible so it can be disabled otherwise you could be held responsible for it's unauthorised use . Do not use you card to grant other people access to labs and building, and do not give your card away to other people to use, doing so may lead to suspension or removal of your access.
