Field trip

Background

The field trip for 2001 was held on the 9th. of October at the Canning river regional park near the Kent street weir in the Perth suburb of Cannington. For the first time the field trip was a joint project, held between two units of study- Geographical Data Analysis 152/502 and LIS382. Thus developing and integrating the skills of surveying and GIS disciplines. The weather for the field trip was fine and in the mid 20s and the attendance was excellent with about 50 students present.

The project focussed on soil pH sampling throughout the study area, with the aim of obtaining soil quality coverage data for utilisation in future virtual sampling exercises. Other than very small scale soil mapping, there is no soil information available for the study region. We want to obtain soil quality coverage information and utilise this data in future virtual sampling exercises.
