Traverse closures

When a traverse starts and finishes on the same point or starts and finishes on two points whose spatial relationship is defined, we can perform a mathematical check to see whether the work in the field is sufficiently accurate for the job in hand. This process is called taking out a close.

Consider the rectangular traverse ABCD shown below.
