Module outcomes

You have just completed the virtual online levelling module on survey levelling. At this stage you should:

• Be able to describe the various components of the Automatic level.
• Have a knowledge of of all the equipment required to carry out a simple level survey.
• Be able to set up the level.
• Be able to read the staff.
• Be able to carry out an area level survey and reduce it using the collimation height method or the rise and fall method.
• Be able to carry out a series level traverse and reduce it using the rise and fall method, and apply the appropriate checks.
• Understand collimation error, how to test for it, and adjust the instrument.
