Welcome to the Modular Automation Research Group. This web site is intended for both members of the academic community and the general public. We hope you find it useful and informative and should you wish to contact the group please contact Graham Rogers (Senior Lecturer, Mechatronics - see below). The Group's research is in two broad areas aimed at advancing a new modular systems paradigm to manufacturing automation, namely:

Modular Manipulators

This research is concerned with advancing a new modular systems approach to industrial manipulator type automation. On going work is focused on developing the foundations of advanced AI based tools to support the specification and design of such machinery.

Modular Production Systems

MPS_business.jpg (22421 bytes)

Outlines research on a radically new product-oriented manufacturing paradigm which is based on building production systems from standardised machine elements. The overall objective is to provide a production methodology which will enable entire production systems to be rapidly designed and configured.
